Natural and healthy hair rules in the summer! Now is the season to let go of perfect, sleek hairdos and embrace that loose, natural look. Learn how to protect your hair from the heat, sun, and humidity without turning it into an endless battle.
Keep your hair happy and healthy all summer long using these natural, chemical-free methods.
Try a hot oil rinse:
Weekly twice apply olive oil or coconut oil or almond oil. Any oil you wish. Next day wash your hair with any mild shampoo. Take honey and add 2, 3 drops of olive oil. Use this mixture as conditioner. Olive oil is good for conditioning and dandruff control, honey is a humectant; it attracts and holds moisture. You will get soft, smooth and healthy hair.
Solution for hair fall:
The major and common problem which many of us face in summer is hair fall. If you are having the same problem then take more fluids in your diet. Give more preference to coconut water and fruit juices. Eat more fruits with high water levels like water melon, pomegranate and cantaloupe.
Healthy diet is important to get healthy hair. Try to avoid aerated drinks and fast foods in summer. Try to have homemade food all the time. Have more green leafy and fresh vegetables. These measure will help you in maintaining the health of hair and skin.
If you need to go out in sun more, then its better to avoid conditioners. Instead of store brought conditioner use this homemade lotion for conditioning.
- Take one cup of cucumber pulp, add three spoons of yogurt and one lemon juice. Apply this mixture to the scalp and hair and massage your scalp. Let it sit for 20 minutes and then wash your hair with mild shampoo. This process will not only condition your hair but also treats the dandruff.
Reduce the heat:
Try to blow-dry your hair as little as possible. It is already exposed to a significant amount of heat on a daily basis in the summer, and it will probably air-dry quickly anyways, so give the blow dryer a break and go au natural if you can. Avoid flat-irons, too, as they will do further damage to already-dry hair. Plus, a sleek hairstyle only makes that frizz stand out more.
Use a scarf or hat to cover your head when you’re out in the sun. Not only does this provide extra UV protection, but it also helps your scalp to retain moisture. A hat reduces damage caused by wind, especially if your hair is prone to tangling, and protects color-treated hair.
Add some sunscreen:
There are shampoos that contain UV protection, but most of those are chemical-laden, conventional shampoos that I’d recommend avoiding. One quick way to add some protection is to run your hands lightly through your hair after applying sunscreen to your body.
